Beautiful pair of Fuchi and Kashira, for Japanese KATANA-WAKIZASHI, Edo period, commemorating the Genpei battle Samurai, (end of Heian period and beginning of Kamakura Shogunate), famous war (1181-1185) with the victory of MINAMOTO clans against TAIRA clans.
In particular, the Kashira depicts the famous victorious Samurai YOSHITSUNE MINAMOTO (because the Mon of his Clan) and he was brother of new Shogun Yoritomo Minamoto.
Yoshitsune take a battle over the GOJO bridge also with BENKEI, a warrior priest of Mount HIEI, so when BENKEI met YOSHITSUNE, a young but very expert Samurai, Youshitsune with skill and agility, defeated BENKEI, who became a faithful follower and friend.
Vintage nice condition for the age, Shakudo, alloy, copper, gold with raven black patina. The ground of FUCHI-KASHIRA is deeply incised-decorated in IROE TAKAZOGAN (high relief inlay with SHAKUDO and gold).
