Ettore Sottsass - Memphis Milano - Lampada da tavolo - Tahiti
This special lamp, 'Tahiti', was designed by the Italian architect and designer Ettore Sottsass (1917-2007) in 1981. The lamp is typical of the Memphis group, which Sottsass founded in 1981. This group of designers opposed the strict rules of modernism and used bright colours and patterns, inspired by pop art, among other things. This colourful enamel metal lamp in the shape of a duck has a rotating head. The laminated plateau on which the duck stands is decorated with the well-known black and white 'bacteria' pattern of Sottsass.
This copy is a real collector’s item! Made in the 1980s and exhibited in the Stedelijk museum and Groninger museum in 1989. This last exhibition was even opened by Ettore Sottsass himself!!
