CRETACEO- Cretaceo superiore , Cenomaniano (93.9-100,5 milioni di anni) - Cina

Beautiful set of 60 egg shells of Oviraptor, an extinct genus of dinosaurs. Oviraptor lived during the Cretaceous in the area of Mongolia and China
Only incomplete Oviraptor skeletons have been found. For this reason, the exact appearance of the animal is uncertain. What is certain, however, is that the Oviraptor looked like a bird and was related to birds. Oviraptor was warm-blooded and had a plumage. Its claws were fairly large and he walked on its hind legs and had a beak. What it ate with it is not certain. Because the first fossil of the Oviraptor was found on a nest, it was thought that it robbed eggs, hence the name "egg thief". Later it was determined that the nest with eggs must have been of the Oviraptor itself. Complete Oviraptor eggs are very rare and very expensive. The individual egg shells are becoming more and more rare as well. I have had these egg shells in my collection for decades. It is striking that Oviraptor egg shells vary in colour. Some egg shells are black/grey, while others are red or yellow. The egg shells have fine ridges as can be seen in the photos. The egg shells are not yet cleaned. Dimensions from 30mm to 7mm.
