DESCRIPTION

“Hsun Ok” Lacquerware in woven and lacquered bamboo, it served to bring offerings to the monasteries during Buddhist ceremonies. The tip is in turned and carved wood. 57 cm high and 32 cm of diameter. The form is characteristic of the Shan State.

This lacquerware dates back to the late 19th or very early 20th century.

This one was purchased in the surroundings of the Inle Lake.

The traces of white inscriptions under the lacquer should correspond to the name of the donor family.

TRAVEL DIARY OF JEAN DUMOULIN

During my first travel in Bagan, I fell in love with the Hsun Ok lacquerware, these recipients in a pagoda form mounted on a stand present a timeless and perfect design. The first pieces I have purchased had a lot of trouble arriving in Antwerp, but after several months, the latter arrived intact, despite a quite rudimentary packaging.

CONDITION:

This lacquerware is in average condition, it was “locally” restored and presents lacks (have a look at the pictures). However, it is stable, solid and very decorative.

It will be carefully packaged and sent by insured mail with track & trace via Bpost.
