Madonna and Child in the Round
Etching after: Guido Reni (1575-1642)
Guaranteed 17th century's work by an unidentified engraver working close to the Guido Reni work.
The difference with the original Guido Reni etching can only be established in a few details and then it is still doubtful whether it is not simply a different version.
The original Guido Reni is very rare, not in the British Museum, not in the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam. One found at the Royal Collection Trust-London (no image) and one in the Met (New York) with image. I added an image from the Met as last image (for reference only)
A good impression trimmed on the square image borderline without the blank text line below the subject.
Remains of album tipping visible on the backside. Italian watermark in the laid paper (Lily in a double circle)
Hand inscription in brown ink bottom left corner 'guido Reni inv'
