DESCRIPTION

Two wooden dragons gilded with gold-leaf with glass inlays (Mandalay technique), for one purchased in situ in the Bagan region, Myanmar (Burma). This mythological and protective animal is often found in monasteries and temples, especially at the entrance to the Taung Kalat monastery, at Mount Popa, one of Burma's main pilgrimage destination.

They are sold with their custom-made steel pedestals.

Height without the base of the one with glass inlays, 36 cms, 39 cms with the base.

Height of the second, 37 cms without the base, 41 cms with the base.

In 2017, one of my connections in Bagan took me to an intermediary entrusted by the monks to sell objects to enable the renovation and operation of the monastery. It was a difficult decision but I overpaid the objects in order to keep clear conscience, a decision made easier by the fact there were no Buddha statues...

CONDITION

The first is in good condition but bears traces of its age while the second is in poor condition, significant gaps and cracks, (see photos).

It will be packaged with care, insured shipment via Bpost with track & trace.
