Leonetto Cappiello, who arrived in Paris in 1898, began a brilliant career as a cartoonist that brought him naturally to poster design. His first posters, simple and colourful, were already original enough that the viewer's gaze feels the visual power. Breaking with the rules established by Jules Chéret, the undisputed master of the poster, he finds a definition of the modern poster: the shocking image, effective and happy, the visual stimulant par excellence. Cappiello began a long series that he continued after the war.
