The Mumuye are famous for their wooden figurines named Iagalagana. These sculptures have elongated features and usually present long, pierced ears. Carved by forgers or weavers, the latter are stored in houses isolated on a territory controlled by a family, and are entrusted to a member of this family, known to have magical powers. Iagalagana statuettes have divinatory and apotropaic roles. The latter are used to invoke rain and also generally serve as objects of prestige.
