With the Bakota in Gabon, the dead are also buried. But important chiefs were excavated over time and their skulls and bones were then collected in a braided basket. These important ancestors were thus also taken as a village moved. The reliquary keeper was placed in the basket for protection and remembrance, but also as a resting place for the still wandering spirit. Over time, the basket fell apart and the remains returned to nature. The reliquary keeper then had no magical value for later generations. This death cult existed until the 1940s. The keeper is made of one piece of dark hardwood. It weighs more than 2 kilos. The height is 48 cm, width 20 cm, depth 10 cm The face is slightly hollow at the front and slightly spherical at the back. It is symmetrically lined with copper strips. copper wire and copper elements. The copper work is attached to the wood with staples and nails. The whole has a dark patina.
