I am offering for auction a superb early 20th century watercolour of flowers in bloom over a villa. Titled Bougainvillea, Algiers, it was painted by celebrated listed artist Ella du Cane, 1874-1943. Signed bottom right.
Condition. In good condition. Please inspect all images for accurate condition. Ready to hang. Later Mount and frame.
Provenance. From the deceased estate of Austrian art dealer Paul Wengraf, 1894-1978, who brought it with him from Austria to the U.K. in 1938.
The du Cane sisters visited China, Japan, Egypt, the Canary Islands and Madeira. Ella came into artistic prominence in 1893 when she exhibited at an exhibition of the prestigious New Society of Painters in Water Colours. Queen Victoria took a personal interest in her work, acquiring 26 of Du Cane's works.
