Zorro Rides Again is a 1937 film series based on the character Zorro.
The leading part was played by John Carroll. The series combines a western environment with modern (1930s) elements.
The film is about James Vega, the great-grandson of Don Diego (the original Zorro). He is brought to California by his uncle, Don Manuel Vega, to assist Manuel and two of his friends, Joyce and Phillip Andrews. Joyce and Phillip’s railway is threatened by J.A. Marsden, a man who wants to get his hands on the entire railroad with the help of his assistant El Lobo. Manuel hopes that James, given his origins, can come to the rescue.
James, however, is not as good a fighter as his great-grandfather once was. Nevertheless, he assumes the identity of Zorro to defeat Marsden and El Lobo.
Zorro Rides Again was filmed between 8 September and 5 October 1937 under the working title Mysterious Don Miguel.
The film series was later edited into a film, which was released on 22 September 1938. The film series was also turned into a six-episode television series in the early 1950s.
The silent film is in black and white with Dutch subtitles and lasts about 62 minutes. It’s on two 500-metre plastic film reels in a plastic film case.
The film runs well on my Bauer P8TS projector.
