Small flat mask which is labeled with a handwritten sticker: "Nepalese Highlander Shepard Mask - made from discarded bowl". The label was fallen off, but still inside the box were the mask was stored since 20 years.
The mask also shows reverse remainings of a red sealing wax which the officials usually put on items which are allowed for legal export.
Due it is probably from the wood of an old carved bowl the carving of the face is very flat done. At the forehead a bird is shown.
The piece has a authentic partly shining patination.
1996 the previous owner estimated the mask "at least 120 years old". I think it is around 70 years old.
Provenience: Gallery Lost Heavens (Chiang Mai/Thailand), Collection of an architect (Sydney/Australia), German Private Collection (clearing).
