Magnificent Ancient Kammavaca Myanmar, monastic manuscript
Burma, 19th century.
Dimensions: 138 x 93 cm.
Weight: 2509 grams.
In very good condition. Mounted on a silk brocade.
Marvellous manuscript composed of 8 lacquered sheets. The backgrounds and decorations were made with red and gold, whereas the text in Pali is applied with a thick black layer.
The kammavaca are ordination books offered to young people becoming priests. The latter list the basic monastic rules.
