Very large flintlock cavalry or horse pistol - Louis XIV:
Total length: 55 cm
Barrel length: 37 cm
Calibre: 14 mm
Very large German (Holy Roman Empire) or Prussian shotgun, circa 1700-1730.
Wooden mount with long barrel, chiselled swan-neck flintlock, iron counter-lock.
Barrel with faceted sides and then round, with brass sight, all brass fittings.
Front trigger guard in the shape of a basket of foliage, brass puzzle butt-cap with a grotesque mask that serves as the butt-end.
Brass thumb-piece.
Mechanism in good condition, complete and functional, very firm springs.
Butt in walnut wood, in good (healthy) condition.
Please note: the lock as well as the counter-lock are not the originals, they were refitted.
The counter-lock is a simple undecorated plate, one of the lock screws is modern, the rod is not the original.
The mechanism works perfectly (2 notches), the gun has a very attractive presentation.
