Large percussion revolver, .44 calibre, single action, 6 shots, patented by Ebenezer Starr in 1857.
From the American civil war period, the single action ‘Army’ model was made from 1863 to 1865.
Altogether, approximately 54,000 Starr revolvers were manufactured:
- 1858 model, Double Action .36 Caliber Percussion Navy Revolver (1 to 3000)
- 1858 model, Double Action .44 Caliber Percussion Army Revolver (3000 to 23,000)
- 1863 model, Single Action .44 Caliber Percussion Army Revolver (23,000 to 54,000)
The serial number is 51087 and is marked on the frame (under the barrel and hammer), under the butt plate and on the cylinder (barely visible).
Marking on the frame: ‘STARR ARMS Co. NEW YORK’ and ‘STARR'S PATENT JAN. 15, 1856’
No sign of oxidation, slight orange peel.
The barrel interior is decent, the grooves are clearly visible and well-marked.
Cylinder chambers in good condition.
Original grip plates in good condition.
In good working order, no play.
Very nice collectable weapon in well-preserved condition.
Sold with its custom-made holster.
