Description
Stupa shaped teak box.
This type of box was used either during the rite of the cremation of a Buddhist through siam, or in this case as an element of decoration to put medicinal herbs.
This box is decorated with gold leaf in the shape of a stupa.
The stupa is a Buddhist and Jain architectural structure that can be found in the Indian subcontinent, where it originates, but also in the rest of Asia, where it followed the expansion of Buddhism.
It is both an aniconic representation of the Buddha and a monument commemorating his death or parinirvana.
