Jacques Bernard Hombron (1798-1852) was a French naval surgeon and naturalist (mainly ornithologist). Hombron served on the French voyage of discovery of Dumont d'Urville between 1837 and 1840 to map the perimeter of Antarctica with two ships, the Astrolabe and the Zélée. Together with Honoré Jacquinot he described new species of plants and animals.
This volume includes descriptions of the travels of La Pérouse, Bougainville, the murder of Captain Cook, the Pelew Islands, the discovery of New Zealand, the travels of Bontekoe, Borneo, Algeria, Australia and Java. etc. etc.
