A superb Apulian, red-figure funerary bell krater. The obverse depicting an Ionic naiskos scene,. A stepped temple with the deceased inside, depicted nude and seated on a chlamys, his right hand outstretched holding a spear, flanked on either side by a female figure, each peplos-clad and adorned with jewellery, hair dressed in a kekryphalos and radiate stephane; one carryng a situla and a wreath, the other with a bunch of grapes and showing a phiale full of offerings. Vegetal motifs decorating the base and the pediment of the temple. Reverse decorated with intrincated laurel branches and two flying doves carrying wreaths. wave motif encircles the mouth and groundline of the amphora. Condition: Professional restorations over fracture lines on handles, foot and body. Small added materioal on the handles for reconstruction. Body with large original pieces in fine condition.
