African Dan “Racing” Mask in hard and dense wood, from Ivory Coast
The Dan, known under the name of Yacouba, live in the west of Ivory Coast and in Liberia, in a wooded region which is covered by the savannah in the north. Before their union at the beginning of the century, allowed by secret societies, the Dan lived in autonomous villages ruled by a chief, elected for his wealth and his social position. Currently, the Leopard society plays a major role within the lives of the Dan.
