Old traditional Cambodian rice sickle made of wood and metal, circa 1950s-1960s. The handle ends into an elegant tip, carved in the form of a stylised Naga, guardian of nature’s treasures. There are some polychromy marks on this sickle which consists of two wooden elements which fit together, without any metal hooping, which is rare. It is on a custom-made steel stand, included with the object.
Dimensions, without the stand: 44 cm long, 27 cm high.
TRAVEL DIARY OF JEAN DUMOULIN:
I have been collecting these objects since my first trip to Cambodia, in the middle of the 1990s, their timeless shape, clean graphics and function have seduced me and still do, even if it is increasingly difficult to encounter these pieces.
In good condition but with some use marks, see pictures.
