Our little "Birdbeak" mask has a separately carved, moving lower beak.
The zoomorphic aspect and the use of colour are common for the masks of the male " Ekpo " - society.
At the same time, they refer to the spirits of the ancestors and to the birds that announce the harvest season.

Dark brown oily patina.
Red and white painting of the face and beak.
Restored tip of the lower beak.
Fixed with rattan strings above and under the beak.
Attachment holes at the upper edge.
Scattered dust deposition.
Dry inside with smoke treatment against insects (slight smell ! )
Beautifully carved and very creative little mask!
