The Joslyn 1864 model rifle, the second model, was a cavalry weapon that used an innovative breech-loading system, one shot, .52-calibre, invented and patented by Massachusetts weapons designer Benjamin Franklin Joslyn in 1861.
This second model supports the improvements brought to the 1862 model.
The U.S. government signed a contract for a total of more than 16,500 Joslyn rifles (both models) during the Civil War.
8000 copies of the 2nd model were produced.

Metal parts: weapon colour restored, all markings are clearly legible.
Lock marked: ‘ JOSLYN FIRE ARMS Co. / STONINGTON CONN. / 1864’
Body marked: ‘ B.F. JOSLYN'S PATENT / OCTOBER 8th 1861 / JUNE 24th 1862’
Cover plate marking: ‘ U.S.’
Marking on the breech tail and breech loading mechanism: 10898
Breech loading mechanism in perfect condition, entirely original, complete and functional, firm locking without any play.
Grooved round barrel with mirror surface.
Wood in very good condition, beautiful English butt.
