FUNCTION: for the Yoruba, one of the twins is considered to be the spiritual double of the other one, whose place is in the hereafter with the Gods, and when he dies, the soothsayer replaces him by a statuette, since twins have powers that other children do not have.
POPULATION: Yoruba from Nigeria, region of Ekiti.
MATERIAL: hardwood with a thick shiny patina obtained by ancient use, highlighted with necklaces and bracelets in brass and copper.
DIMENSIONS: 27 cm for both, including the stand.
STATE OF PRESERVATION: excellent condition, despite the antiquity, without break nor restoration.
ESTIMATED PERIOD: first half of the 20th century.
PROVENANCE: former A. Blandin Collection, very famous for his publications about bronze and iron.
