According to legend, Hsuan Tian Shang Di (玄天上帝) was originally a prince of Jing Le State in northern Hebei during the time of the Yellow Emperor. As he grew up, he felt sorrow and pain for the life of ordinary people so wanted to retire to a remote mountain for cultivation of the Dao. Hsuan Tian Shang Di (玄天上帝) was highly revered by the Taiwan Ming dynasty folk hero Zhen Chen Gong (鄭成功).
The statue features a beautiful time honed patina. Right hand sword lost to time. Old repair to chair arm.
