The original decoration - the Auschwitz Cross. The name of the decoration comes from the Auschwitz concentration camp. Dimensions: 42 × 42 mm, silver-plated, oxidized. The obverse shows a barbed wire and two columns. In the centre there is a red triangle with the letter P (such patch was used in German concentration camps for Poles). On the horizontal arms there is an inscription: 1939 – 1945. The reverse bears the inscription: PRL / WIĘŹNIOM / HITLEROWSKICH / OBOZÓW KONCENTRACYJNYCH (PRL /TO PRISONERS OF / NAZI / CONCENTRATION CAMPS). After 1989 the inscription on the back side “PRL” was changed on “RP”.
The ribbon from the cross has a width of 40 mm. It contains eleven vertical stripes in light grey and blue colours (prison uniforms colours).
