You are bidding on two particularly old and rare headbands (headdress) from the highlands & also the Huon Gulf region of New Guinea, for example the tribe of Rawa warriors - Finisterre mountains!
Studded with hundreds of the tiniest nassa shells, this ornate object was also considered part of the standard bride price (primitive money).
These shells from the coast were traded over long distances and transported to the highlands of P.N.G.! They therefore had a particularly high value!
Only traditional plant fibre cord was used! NO NYLON!
This smaller headband is about 38 cm long & 4 cm wide.
The conus disc headband is approx. 58 cm long & 4 cm wide.
