BATIK CAP IKET KEPALA
Interesting and rare batik Iket Kepala (Headcloth) with a geometric pattern and Islamic crescent design in each corner.
This piece could have been made in Kelantan or Terengganu, both Islamic sultanates with a substantial number of batik cap workshops.
But is is also possible that is was made in Java for export to Northern Sumatra or the Malay Peninsula.
I have not seen many of such pieces and there is value in its scarcety.
Early 20th century
Indonesia or Malaya
c. 90 x 90 cm
There are some wear holes in the folds. Still a good piece; good colours.
