The Battle of the Sea (also known as the Battle of the Sound) took place during the Second Nordic War on 29 October (Julian) / 8 November 1658 (Gregorian) near the Öresund between the fleet of the United Provinces of the Netherlands and the Swedish Fleet , Swedish troops had advanced to Denmark and an army under Charles X of Sweden besieged the Danish capital Copenhagen. The Dutch fleet was to support Denmark and prevent Sweden from taking control of both shores of the Sound and thus trade in the Baltic Sea. The battle ended with a victory for the Dutch.
