Function: ritual sanctuary object which purpose in to maintain the oaths to the ancestors and to reinforce the rituals of the JO, which explains its name.
Population: The Bambara or Bamana as they name themselves; region of Ségou, circle of the former Ségou.
Material(s): semi-hard wood with a wonderful shiny patina of handling.
State of preservation: object in good condition, without break nor restoration.
Provenance: former private French collection.
Farafi Gallery, Aix en Provence, specialist in Arts of Mali for more than twenty five years; then, Keita gallery.
The piece can be viewed during the auction in the Keita gallery, in the Village of Antiquarians in the train station of Isles sur Sorgues.
