Heavy 1943 British, Greengate & Irwell WW2 Weatherproof/Rubberized Dispatch Riders Coat in Excellent Condition!!
From 1914 up until the 1960's, the British Signal Service used motorcycle riders, known as Dispatch Riders as part of their communications infrastructure.
For all-weather demands of the job, messengers wore this coat with a double-buckled belt to hold it down. Hem snaps around the legs of the rider forming an extra layer of protection over their trousers.
This jacket sports functions that are standard in outdoor gear today such as Taped seams and a rubberized inner lining. quite remarkable for a 76 year old Coat!
