Size: H 21.5cm W 13.5cm

Category: Onna

Used in plays such as Eguchi, Hachinoki (Potted Trees), Kogō, Hanagatami (Flower Basket), Aoi no Ue (Lady Aoi), etc

Portrays a girl of fifteen or sixteen, the youngest woman represented by the masks, with purity, beauty and virginity. "Ko" in Ko-omote means pretty or lovely. There's a well-known episode in the life of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, a feudal ruler who unified Japan. He was charmed by the three Ko-omote masks, and named them Yuki no ko-omote (Mask of Snow), Tsuki no ko-omote (Mask of Moon), and Hana-no ko-omote (Mask of Flower). Yuki no ko-omote is owned by the Kongō family, Hana no ko-omote is owned by the Mitsui Bunko Foundation. Unfortunately Tsuki no ko-omote was burnt when the Castle of Edo was on fire. Worn by the leading actors in performances of the Konparu and Kita schools.
