* Painter: Lambertus Th. C. Lourijsen.
* ‘Zittende Javaan’, 1933.
Signed on the bottom right.
The painting was presented at auction house De Jager in Goes in early 2019 with an estimate of €1200-2400 and a reserve of €800. Venduehuis der Notarissen The Hague gave an auction valuation of €400 a few years ago.
What I know about the artist:
Lourijsen was a student and friend of Jan Toorop. He is also depicted on several well-known pieces by Toorop.
Lourijsen is not only known for his paintings but also of his works of art in church buildings. His work can be found in churches of Beverwijk, Bussum, Haarlem, The Hague, Halfweg, Heemskerck, Kralingen, Voorschoten, Zandvoort and the synagogue of Enschede.
The frame has some minor damage that can easily be repaired.
Collection is preferred due to the size of the lot.
