Nice decorative Chinese lion.

The Chinese temple lion is a popular animal representation in Chinese art and culture. Temple lions are usually made of stone or bronze. They are always made as a couple, a lion and a lioness, and they can usually be found at the entrance of a temple or important pavilion.

At a temple there are two, on both sides of the entrance. When walking to the temple, on the left is a lioness with a cub (baby lion), which represents care. The lioness has the same mane as the lion on the other side of the entrance. The lion to the right of the entrance is resting its right paw on a sphere. This is sometimes smooth, but often decorated. This pearl symbolises prosperity and power. The lions wear a medallion on a chain, some lions also have two pendants on their shoulder.
