Max Papart was born in Marseille (France) in 1911 and died in 1994. He was a French-American contemporary painter and collage artist. His work shows a soft liveliness, a discreet irony (almost non-existent) and a clear sense of plastic beauty.
As a young man, he briefly attended the School of Fine Arts in Marseille, but he preferred to learn painting on his own. Settling in Paris in 1936, he worked as an artisanal printer. He exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants and produced his first etchings.
