Very nice statue of the famous French mannequin designer Pierre Imans.
In 1896 Imans started producing unconventional, naturalistic mannequins in wax. Unlike the generic, faceless fashion dolls that adorned shop windows across Europe, the dolls of Iman had face paint, resin eyes, eyelashes and human hair wigs. In addition, they wore names and were photographed as chic celebrities in marketing catalogues. Imans refused to call his wax works "mannequins." Their realism and elegant modelling make them a true sculpture, modern portrait busts that float fascinatingly between high art and popular, commercial appeal.
