Biography: Paul AZPIRI (1919-2016) was a French figurative painter belonging to the ‘Jeune peinture” of the Paris school with Gaetan de Rosnay, Bernard Buffet, Maurice Boitel... A former student of the 'École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts, where he was admitted in 1936, he exhibited at the ‘Salon d’Automne’ just after the Liberation and won the third prize for Young Painting in 1951. He is well known in Japan where his works are on permanent display at the Nakata Museum in Onomichi. From 1951, he exhibited at the Salon of painters witnesses of their time, chaired by Isis Kischka. The son of a sculptor, he belongs to this generation of artists who knew the great era of Montparnasse and Saint Germain. Paul Aïzpiri passed away on 22nd January 2016, at the age of 96.
