Was taught at the city academy of applied arts in Maastricht and the prestigious Jan van Eyck academy also in Maastricht, where he later served as a guest lecturer. Illustrator of poetry bundles of Hans van de Waarsenburg and Wiel Kusters, among others. He made drawings for NRC Handelsblad. His work can be seen in significant places, the ceiling painting of the Mosasaurus at the natural history Museum is also by him, as is the Prometheus on the burn screen of the Bonbonniere in Maastricht. His work is part of numerous corporate collections, collector Jo Eyck bought work from him just like Museum Van Bommel Van Dam in Venlo. The Bonnefantenmuseum in Maastricht has seventy works by Boosten. He is a perfectionist who would work on a canvas for years.
Boosten received the "Prijs der Stad Maastricht" in 1971 and in the same year the royal grant for free painting.
