Funnel crater; Magna Graecia Daunia, 4th century B.C.
Attached thermoluminescence test issued by QED Laboratoire.
Dimensions: 20 x 24 cm
Crater made of ceramic, decorated with reddish and brown parallel lines on a cream coloured background. The decoration of this piece stands out, not only for its polychrome ornamentation, but also for the treatment of the vessel in the belly where you can see the typical handles of the type of the vessel and also a ledge that takes an anthropomorphic form. The crater was a vessel of great capacity, destined to contain a mixture of water and wine. It was brought to the place of food, deposited on the ground or on a platform. The cupbearer administered the drink with a spoon or jug, then filling the glasses of the guests.
Purchased by the current owner in 2018 in London UK from an art gallery, previous, private collection owned before 80's.
