I offer this beautiful 17th century painting of an inn scene with a cheerful company. The gentlemen are courting the lady. The fact that the lady is wearing red stockings usually meant in terms of iconography that she is not bothered by sexual morality. These kinds of scenes were painted a lot at that time. They showed the loose mores of the simple population in order to serve as an example to the good citizens.
According to experts, the painting is reminiscent of the 17th century Leiden artist Jacob Toorenvliet in terms of presentation and type. Unfortunately, there is no evidence for this.
The painting is in good restored condition but shows its age. The frame is beautiful and matches. Will be shipped properly packed.
