Stunning antique cabinet from the first half of the 19th century. In good condition with very few imperfections. It is composed of two separate parts one of top of the other and the shelf which decorates the top of the piece.
It is robust, made in wood, with multiple layers of Chinese black varnish which lend a uniform, intense black colour to the whole piece. After the application of the layers of varnish, the piece was finely decorated with gorgeous chinoiseries in gold, representing palace scenes of great figurative and compositional value. Abundant floral and animal motives with wavy shapes crown the exceptional decorations on this piece.
Each of the two pieces has two lateral handles in gilt bronze for moving it. The whole usable surface of the cabinet is kept by two folding doors which hide the elaborate storage system of the piece, finished by engraved handles in bone decorated with the same technique and materials on the outside of this piece of furniture. The bottom part has five deep drawers, varnished in the inside.
The top part has plenty of drawers and a central mirror, and two filing cabinet areas on the sides.
Not only an exquisite piece of antique furniture from Canton, but also a versatile piece with great storage capacity.
