Marius Janssen - St Laurentius Toren Rotterdam

Marius Janssen - St Laurentius Toren Rotterdam
Acquaforte - Firmato a mano - 1930

Marius Johannes JANSSEN was born in The Hague on 4 July 1885 and died in Rotterdam on 11 December 1957.
He was a painter, photographer and (especially) etcher. After wandering in Bergen op Zoom, Arnhem, Utrecht, he worked in Hillegersberg (1935 Rotterdam) from 1926 onwards. He is known for his cityscapes throughout the country, in which church towers in particular play a dominant role.

The Grote or Saint Laurenskerk, often referred to in short as Laurenskerk, is a Gothic church building in Rotterdam. She is the only remnant of the medieval Rotterdam city centre. The current church is a cross between a hall church and a cross basilica. In the church one of the exhibition chapels there is a button-capital of its predecessor, a two-headed hall church without a choir and tower. The church is dedicated to Laurentius of Rome, the patron of Rotterdam.
