This tea chest on foot/tea poy is of very refined and high quality! Made of a light (coniferous) wood type & mahogany and glued with mahogany veneer, during the English Regency period, about 1825.
On the inside there are two compartments for tea with remnants of the original silver foil and lockable with the solid mahogany lids fitted with refined twisted ebony knob. Between the compartments there are two recesses where the crystals mixing bowls were located, these were probably broken previously and unfortunately are no longer present. On the inside of the lid the original blue upholstery is still there. The original working brass lock is twice marked with the crowned letters GR and a "patent" mark. The brass hinges and key entrance are original.
The tea poy has a sophisticated twisted and elaborately carved column decorated with - among others - Acanthus leaves. The tea poy rests on a sleek three-legged table with elegant volute shaped legs in which brass casters are fitted! This chic tea poy is not a common piece of furniture with a beautiful warm gold orange brown colour and satin gloss!
