A most exceptional and rare Gilt Brass and Pietra Dura Playing Card Box. The box can be attributed to Dunhill, and most probably is a Dunhill piece.
It is in a fantastic preserved condition with a light patina to the brass. The hinged cover is inlaid with semi-precious stones forming playing cards and counters. The interior is lined with four compartments that are supplied with a range of 19th century playing games. Each side is fitted with break arch bail handles. This model, unlike other ones I have seen is even more rare and sought after as it depicts all of the aces as opposed to assorted suits. Also, its pietra dura is a of a more intricate and complex nature.
