Painting in perfect condition.
André Tondu was a student of Fernand Cormon, Émile Renard and Jean-Pierre Laurens at the Paris School of Fine Arts. Award winner for French Equatorial Africa in 1927, he continued painting African scenes until 1929 and participated in the Colonial Exhibition of 1931. He produced some studies kept at the Musée du Quai Branly in Paris.
Winner of the 1931 Rome Grand Prize for his painting The Return, he went to Rome to board at the Villa Medici. André Tondu was appointed director of the National School of Fine Arts in Dijon.
