t.a. Roelant Roghman, 1627-1692
Abcoude, etching 2nd half 17th century.
In the life of Roghman, his topographical etchings were copied by the print-publishers Clemens de Jonge and R. and I. Ottens. These copies are always signed stating Roghman as original. (inv.). The unsigned 17th century specimens are usually attributed to Roghman.
Image size 12.2 x 20.2 cm with around a margin of 1 mm. Title "Abcou" in the middle of the picture. Date ±1680. Clear print while retaining all the details. The bottom right corner is damaged (see picture). On the back two small residue from tape. With backlight, two thin spots are visible.
Besides from some topographical references, this is the oldest known image of the village of Abcoude by a visual artist.
