Round, silver ink well with round-shaped, hinged lid and insert. Body and lid are both crafted with twisted ribs (rounded folds), a bladder-shaped type of adornment which goes back to the early 17th century. The lid has a click clasp; Interior has an (ink)pad, increasing leak-proof seal.
A silver monogram is applied on the lid. A date is engraved on the collar with ornate letters (May 16, 1890).
Hallmarked Birmingham 1889, 1st grade content silver (925/1000), marked J.G&S for John Grinsell & Sons (silversmiths 1864-1920).
