Antoine de Saint-Exupéry was born on 29th June 1900 in Lyon and disappeared during a flight on 31st July 1944, off the coast of Marseille, died for France. He was a French writer, poet, aviator and reporter. From 1932 on, Saint-Exupéry devoted himself to journalism and air raids. His international reporting from Vietnam in 1934, Moscow in 1935, and Spain in 1936, influenced his reflections on humanistic values. ‘Terre des hommes’, published in 1939, received the Grand Prize of the Académie Française.
‘Le Petit Prince’, written in New York during the war, was published with his own watercolour illustrations in 1943 in New York and in 1946 by Gallimard in France. This tale, full of charm and humanity, became a huge worldwide success.
