Alexander Calder is an American painter and sculptor (1898-1976).
He is known for his motives, his assemblages of forms driven by movements of air and its stabiles.
In 1926 he created articulated toys. Until 1929, the artist focused on the Calder circus, a set of 200 characters in twisted wire
In 1943, the Museum of Modern Art organised a first retrospective, followed in 1946 by an exhibition in Paris, and in 1952, he received the grand prize of the Biennale of Venice.
He is now considered to be one of the greatest painters of the 20th century.
