Nico Eekman was a figurative painter, etcher, woodcarver, lithographer, watercolourist, graphic designer, illustrator and painter. He illustrated, among other things, Uilenspiegel by Charles de Koster with etches. Furthermore, in his work Eekman was inspired by Bosch, Breughel and the Brabant farm life. Favourite topics were: genre, figure scenes, fishing and self-portraits.
Eekman lived and worked in Brussels until 1914, in Nuenen, Amsterdam and Laren until 1920. In 1920 he settled permanently in Paris.
