Nougaku has three roles of "Site", "Waki" and "Tsure".
This Ukiyoe shows the stage of Nōgaku called Hagromo based on the story called Hagromo legend
The person who wears red clothes is the role of Hagromo.
As it is an old ukiyo-e.
There are cuts and holes where plums are drawn.
Nōgaku (能楽) is one of the traditional styles of Japanese theater. It is composed of the lyric drama nō (能), and the comic theater kyōgen (狂言). Traditionally, both types of theatre are performed together, the kyōgen being interposed between the pieces of nō during a day of performances.
